Polychrome 50th

Jeff Josefsberg found a letter from NY State Senator John Flynn to then president Joe Piot congratulating Polychrome for its 50th anniversary celebrated in 1985.   He comments of us headquartered in Yonkers.      He was familiar with Polychrome as he was a two term Yonkers Mayor before he ran for the Senate.     He did not seek re-election in 1986.        Both Joe Piot and Senator Flynn retired from their posts soon after.     Thank you Jeff for again contributing to the blog.

John Randolph retires

Under Seth Cross, John Randolph ran one man department of PR for a long time.      When the time came for him to retire after 30 years of service, however, he had several colleagues to rely upon who then organized a memorable retirement party for him.      I am sorry I could not find the special edition of Polyworld just printed for this occasion by the staff.

Polychrome Purpose Poster

Jeff Josephberg who still lives in Columbus found a poster ('80's?) with the title " Polychrome Purppose" and kindly sent it to me.        I believe it was the "Mckinsey"era looking to grow out from Mr. Halpern's family style operation into more modern corporate operation.         This was also the time we realized we are no longer a plate and film, consumable material providing company but the hardware and operating system were integral part of our business.        This poster was to promote the idea within to change our perception of ourselves.         Thank you Jeff for sharing this with us.

Paul V. Reilly to Receive PINE’s Industry Influencer Award

Erica Bonime alerted me of the upcoming award fro Paul Reilly.... to receive PINE award.     Congratulations Paul and thank you Erica for keeping us abreast of the great news.

SOUTHBOROUGH, MA—January 14, 2014—Paul V. Reilly, New Direction Partners' founder and partner, will receive PINE’s highest award, the Industry Influencer Award, at the association’s annual Awards Gala, on Thursday, April 10 at the Marriott Boston/Newton Hotel.

The Influencer Award, sponsored by Heidelberg since 2003, honors the contributions of an individual whose vision and energy have impacted our industry in a profound and indelible way. It recognizes the entrepreneurial spirit and foresight to create new business models develop market-shifting technologies and improve our industry in a permanent and sustained manner. Marty Moran, East regional vice president of Heidelberg, will present the award to Reilly.

Reilly’s career is marked by numerous accolades and accomplishments. His tenure as CEO, president and chairman of the board of Cenveo Inc. highlighted his business acumen and vision for a $17 million company. In 10 years, Reilly created a company with $2 billion in sales in 86 manufacturing plants, employing over 10,000 people. While at Cenveo, the company grew rapidly through acquisitions, completing over 60 acquisitions. As CEO, Reilly led the transition of Cenveo from a collection of independent firms to an integrated graphic communication firm providing its clients with multi-media solutions. Growth through acquisition is not a new business model; the boldness, speed and organizational capabilities of Reilly’s method, took the strategy to a new level.

For many other companies it provided a blueprint, as the industry changed and shifted from 2008 to today. Many other companies survive today through their own implementation of the growth strategy that Reilly demonstrated to be a financially sound and prudent business model.

"It is a pleasure to be able to honor Paul Reilly," said PINE president Tad Parker. "His accomplishments and contributions to our industry have positively impacted hundreds of companies and thousands of lives."
