Japanese printers were accustomed to using so called "deep etch" plate reusing aluminum plate numbers of times, thus the newly introduced "one time use"presnsitized plate was accepted slowly. In order to promote the use of PS (term coined by Fuji for presensitized printing plate and later used widely worldwide), Mr. Haplern and Simon Chu toured Japan in the spring of 1967 and updated US printing technology for them in Tokyo, Osaka and Nagoya and attracted large numbers of Japanese printers.. Ken Shimazu accompanied them as an interpreter and also spoke on the off press color proofing technology. (Japanese had extensive use of press proof and off press proof was never widely accepted!)
